Catharsis Bar & Grill: Great Food, Quiet Atmosphere in Hawthorne, NY

On two separate visits to Catharsis Bar & Grill in Hawthorne, NY, I was met with excellent food but a surprisingly quiet atmosphere. Despite visiting during prime hours—Saturday lunch and dinner—the restaurant was nearly empty both times. However, the quality of the food was more than enough to make up for the lack of a crowd.

The Food: A Fusion of Latin and Greek Flavors

Catharsis Bar & Grill serves up an eclectic menu that blends Latin and Greek cuisine. On my first visit, I opted for the ceviche, which was fresh and perfectly seasoned with a hint of citrus. For dinner, I tried the branzino, a flavorful dish that was cooked to perfection and served with thoughtfully paired sides. The menu also includes items like moussaka, garlic shrimp, paella, and an impressive 16-ounce rib-eye steak.

The cocktail menu at Catharsis is top-notch, featuring vibrant, well-crafted drinks. I tried their “Sunset Sangria,” a sweet and refreshing option that didn’t disappoint. They also offer a nice selection of craft beers and wines, which complements their unique menu quite well.

The Atmosphere: Quiet, Casual, and Family-Run

Despite the incredible food, the restaurant was oddly empty during both of my visits—once for lunch and once for dinner. The space is cozy and inviting, but the lack of customers made it feel more like a hidden gem than a buzzing neighborhood spot. It’s located at 415 Commerce Street, near the Hawthorne Metro-North station, with free parking available.
