The Beechmont Tavern in New Rochelle

A North Avenue Classic!

The Beechmont in New Rochelle is a staple of North Ave. It’s right across the street from Iona College and everyone’s favorite joint to grab “Westchesters Best Wings” and a beer.  The Beechmont is nearly 100 years old and has really stood the test of time as a great local pub.  

I spent many a night here just as I was turning 19 and became of legal drinking age and then they made it 21 but my Beechmont family was cool with me.  I was an older looking 19.  ;-)   That was a previous owner.  I’m sure they’re a lot more strict these days.

The Food / The Wings

You can’t take it lightly.  It’s on the front door as you walk in.  The Beechmont self-proclaims to have the Best Wings in Westchester. So, what did I get?  

If presentation is everything, this doesn’t look all that special. There are 15+ flavors and I got the hot buffalo variety.  They are tasty though.  There is a sweetness to them that isn’t found in the usual straight buffalo wing.  They’re not the meatiest though cooked well with a nice crunch where it should be.  But, they are $2 a wing.  Six wings for $12 is a bit much.  Twelve wings for $23?  That’s insanity.  The menu is below.

For almost the same price, I got the sliders with fries as well.  These were pretty good. 

Both dishes did come with the appropriate accoutrements so that was good.

The Bar at The Beechmont

It’s a nice looking, old, oak bar.  There’s close to 20 seats. You’ll find some locals here but it’s mainly a Iona crowd.  The teachers will frequent here as well.  There are some happy hour specials that you should definitely take advantage of.  Discounts on drinks and bar bites.  The bartender this Wednesday night was very attentive.  There were 5-6 people at the bar.

It’s a good pub menu.  A little pricey as noted and you can check that our for yourself.

The Beechmont is a great local pub with a long-standing great reputation.  Street parking can be a challenge.  There is a jukebox.  It’s a slightly more mature audience than some of the other North Avenue pubs near Iona but will still get filled with students on the right nights.  The “Best Wings in Westechester” are recommended but not cheap.  Guess you have to pay for “best!”
