The Peekskill Brewery, Peekskill, NY – Permanently Closed!

Great Beer! (but...)

I was headed north to visit the newly opened Argone Rose in Mohegan Lake (review coming soon!), but upon realizing it was closed, I ventured to Peekskill as it had been a while since I checked out the Peekskill Brewery.  Located on Water street, just a few steps from Riverfront Park and Peekskill Landing Park, The Peekskill Brewery is a convenient stop in the area that features several restaurants to choose from and the parks itself is provide a great place to sit and wonder out at the Hudson River.  There are regular fairs and events during the warmer months. This is really a great place to spend a few hours on a weekend afternoon.

“PB” offers a nice selection of their house-brewed beers, many f which you can often find in cans at other locations in the area. On this visit, I tried three of them! The Skills Pils pilsner and two IPA’s; Eastern Standard and Flow Wolf.  The Flow Wolf was my favorite.  I nice lighter side IPA that didn’t hit you over the head with hops.

Getting the beers was a little bit of a challenge.  There were three twenty-somethings working, dancing, chatting, eating, and well, not always paying attention to the bar. They were more entertaining to each other than their guests.  It wasn’t horrible service but certainly not customer first service.

I also got a nice snack of chicken fingers and asked to include a side of their buffalo hot-sauce.

Chicken Fingers with a variety of sauces.

The “Basket of Chicken Fingers” came out of the kitchen in good time but I noticed there were 5 when the menu said six. I don’t complain often and really didn’t need the sixth piece, but I wanted to see how they’d handle the error. When I mentioned it, the bartender said something like, “We’ve had such a busy day, that’s actually all that was left so you were lucky to get that.”  He wasn’t being defensive, just factual. But if that’s “all that was left,” I knew they weren’t freshly made and they ended up tasting like they were run-of-the-mill frozen fingers.  They were fine.  The sauces were good though the honey mustard was very mustardy. So how did they handle the error otherwise?  Of the three ordered beers, one was on the house. That’s good service.

The bar is long and there are plenty of tables for this type of place.  There was a dart board and a couple of TV’s with sports news on at the time.  There is a great-looking outdoor area for warmer days.
