Applebees in Hawthorne, NY

Some might say that if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.  Well, in this case, they’re pretty much right.  The cookie-cutter approach is successful, though.  But there is a bar, and they serve great drinks, edible food, etc.  But no, you won’t find much original here. What is always great, though, are the Happy Hour and drink specials.  

At the bar, you’ll find what you’d expect: TV and popular brews.  Captain Lawrence Brewery is within walking distance, but not one of the taps here.  It would have been nice to see them on the menu.  But Coors Light is your thing; you’ve come to the right place.

They do have some good happy hour specials, and the happy hours are long. There are usually some real bang-for-your-buck drink specials as well.  Like the giant Long Island Iced teas for $5.00.  That five bucks goes a long way!

I don’t really have to talk about the menu.  You probably know what’s on it, and the food is good and reasonably priced.  You know, like McDonald’s, but better.  I had the Chicken Wonton Tacos at the bar.  They were good.  A nice little combo of flavors.  There isn’t much more that’s original, though.  Nothing you wouldn’t find at Chili’s or TGI Fridays. Consistency is definitely the name of the game for the big chains.  There are other restaurants in the area with finer cuisine, like The Barley House or Pete’s Saloon, and you can get better beer at Captain Lawrence, but you get what you pay for in this case.  Applebees always has a seasonal drink menu with specials, and the drink prices are usually great.

The service was good.  The bartender was attentive and quick.  Kudos to her.

The place was clean, though also pretty empty.

Not sure what else to say that you wouldn’t already know.  They do have free parking and outdoor dining, which nice in the Summer.
