Demeter’s Tavern & Sports Bar in Tarrytown
Great neighborhood sports bar!
Tucked away on old White Plains Road is Demeter’s Tavern & Sports Bar, a great local spot where food, drinks, neighbors, and the games are always on.
I’m semi-regular at Demeter’s in Tarrytown as my in-laws live about 3 minutes away. Me and Grandpa will go for a beer or two and to watch a game on occasion. He’s a big fan of the boneless wings which are pretty damn good.
And if you get them Buffalo, Hot, they are hot. Not some wimpy hot made by a chef that doesn’t like spicey food.
Walking in, you might be surprised as the place looks much bigger than it does from the front. It’s not huge but certainly larger than its storefront.
The ambiance is buzzing yet cozy, filled with cheers, high-fives, and friendly banter. I got a snug spot right in front of the screens, with a perfect view of all the games. The camaraderie among the patrons, most of whom were locals, was friendly and inviting.
The bartenders were not just friendly but also highly attentive, ensuring my glass was never empty and checking if I needed anything else. I had several beers, boneless wings, and a grilled chicken sandwich and was not offered a beer on the house. It ended up being pricey for one person, especially after adding the “non-cash adjustment” for a credit card purchase. I really need to only go there with my father-in-law and let him buy.
The beer was cold, the food was good, the service was exceptional, and the peeps were into the games. It’s all good.
The menu featured all your pub favorites plus some nice looking dinners:
I had the grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato, onion, jalapeno, and a side of the hot sauce noted above to dip my fries in. I’m a glutton for punishment.
There wasn’t a large selection of drafts though there was a healthy selection of bottled beers. They have a wine list which I snatched from their website:
They get it right for the holidays as well. They’re all decked out for Halloween currently. These two seem at odds with each other as they’re greeting you at the door upon walking in.
Just re-emphasizing the neighborly feel at Demeters, this is from the About page on their website and I think it sums it up better than I can:
Demeter’s Tavern is a gathering place for locals and visitors alike.
Our grandfather Frank believed that every community should have a local pub with good food, good ale, and good people. We’ve remained a local gem for the past 75 years because of our commitment to his vision. From generation to generation, our traditions have carried on. When you arrive at Demeter’s Tavern, you can expect a friendly welcome from our long standing staff and cherished regulars. We use only the freshest ingredients and serve the best beers, wines and spirits.
At Demeter’s, we cater to you. All of our food is made fresh-to-order and our kitchen is open late (until 11pm Monday through Saturday and until 10pm on Sunday). Sports enthusiasts can watch games from any seat in the house while enjoying classic American cuisine, craft beers, and fine wines. Traveling from out of town? Find your home away from home at Demeter’s Tavern where we’ll happily show your team’s game alongside our Giants games.
Come to Demeter’s for the sense of community, the feeling of home, and the good cheer. We’re known for being a neighborhood bar with more than your classic offerings. Whether you’re coming in to watch a game, need a breather during the work week, or are just exploring what Tarrytown has to offer while staying at one of the lovely hotels nearby, we look forward to providing you with the great service you deserve. You’ll see why we’re a good place to gather.
Looking to get together with friends, co-workers, or family? In 2017, we completely renovated our beloved tavern, and our space now includes a beautiful outdoor patio and a side room that is perfect for parties! From small parties to celebration dinners for your team, we’ll make your event special. Just give us a ring!
On behalf of our family and all of our staff, we thank you for your business and hope to see you soon.
