Just gotta love a traditional Irish Pub. Dunnes is located On Shapham Place in White Plains, just off of Mamaroneck Avenue and has been in operation for over 27 years. It’s a bit south of the more popular strip where Ron Blacks and the other high-volume nightlife bars are normally found but that suits this local pub just fine.
The atmosphere at Dunne’s is that place “where everybody knows your name.” Everyone at the bar jawed with the bartender, Renee, and she seemed to know everyone there. The bar is stocked with your usual beer options plus some favorites from Ireland such as Harp, Smithwicks, and of course, Guinness. The Jameson was flowing pretty freely while I was there as well. Take care of Renee and she’ll take care of you!
This isn’t a large place. The bar probably sits 10 comfortably and there is a small dining room with probably about 10 tables and it was pretty busy this Wednesday night around 8 p.m. There is plenty of parking in the public lots behind and across from the pub, but like all of White Plains, you have to feed a meter or pay by app which works just fine.
The menu at Dunne’s
is pretty eclectic with a mix of American, Irish, and Mexican fare. And for fun, on the first Thursday of every month, they have Oktoberfest and serve up all of your German favorites. I love a good sauerbraten and will have to go back. Maybe two weeks from today. hmmm..
On the Wednsday I went, I didn’t have much time but did order up some tasty Jalapeno Poppers which honestly are probably the same frozen poppers you find in most places but they’re still good. Cheddar instead of cream cheese. Thumbs up for that. Had me a couple of Harp’s as well. Watch those poppers as they’re hot. I seared the roof of my mouth. So annoying!
Also, on most Wednesdays, Dunnes features live music. This is normally a small Irish acoustic band though it can vary from time to time. They played some traditional Irish ditties plus some classic country & western. Good stuff!
Dunne’s Pub is a great place to go for a casual meal with friends or family. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, and the food looks delicious. I’ll be back to report on more than just the poppers! Whether you’re looking for a place to watch the game, catch up with friends, or just relax with a drink, Dunne’s Pub might be the little Irish joint you’ve been looking for.
