I won’t normally start at the end, but I just wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting into…
Yeah, that’s right $12 beers. And $12 for a side of fries. Oh, sorry, “Frites.” Don’t let the fancy name kid you, they were comparable to McDonalds fries. Now, don’t get me wrong, Red Hat On the River serves some decent food. I’ve been there before, but wasn’t buying. I wouldn’t. The $24 burger is very good and the $36 HALF chicken is also very good. But the Red Hat is obviously not charging you for the food, but for the view which can be quite amazing.
But it is a view you can get without visiting the Red Hat. It’s a lovely stroll down the riverside in this area with views north of the Tappan Zee and south to the GW Bridge and Manhattan skyline.
The restaurant has outdoor dining with these views and get there at the right time and it’s a great sunset over The Palisades.
The interior of the Red Hat is pretty impressive as well and seems like it would be an amazing, yet expensive venue for a wedding or other event. There is a pewter bar, a downstairs dining room and a loft dining room. Everything is well appointed. A pewter bar must be expensive. Maybe they’re still paying for it?
Other than the prices, it’s a good looking set of menus…
So yeah, you can see for youself. There is nowhere that a half-chicken should be $36. It may be good but it’s not that good and isn’t worth that money.
In conclusion, the food is good, the restaurant is lovely, the view can be spectacular. It’s not worth the money in my opinion.
