Squires in Briarcliff Manor

It's a damn good burger

Squires in Briarcliff Manor is a mainstay with the locals since 1967.  It bills itself as “Westchester’s First and Finest Steak and Seafood Restaurant.”  First, huh?  Well, I’m not about to argue it was the first but the food doesn’t disappoint.

Squires is located in the little shopping center at the northeast corner of North State Street and 9A. There’s also Dunkin Donuts, a UPS store, and an adorable ceramics shop among other small businesses. On a busy night, dinner parking can be a challenge and Squires isn’t all that big so you might have a wait for a table at times.

The dining room at Squires

The bar is usually full from happy hour until 9-10 most nights.  It’s an older, faithful crowd at Squires and most people know each other.

The U-shaped bar probably holds about 15.  There are 3-4 tables in the bar area as well.  There are some 32 inch screens around and they’ll have the games on.

The staff is usually very friendly.  There are a couple of authentic Irish accents as well.  It doesn’t really bill itself as an Irish pub, but that’s sort of what you’re getting.

The burger is really, really good.  It has won Best of Westchester in the past and it’s deserving.  Here’s a medium “Smothered Burger” which has cheese, onion, mushroom, and Worcestershire sauce.  I got a side salad this time. Needed a break from fries.

Excellent medium "smothered" burger at squires with onions, mushrooms, cheese and A1 A Pabst pint glass filled with beer on a coaster in a bar.

Squire’s menu is pretty extensive for a smallish place.  The lunch menu is below and the dinner menu features a larger selection.

Squires also has some drink specials.  Seems heavy on the martinis if that’s your thing!

The beer menu is not really anything to write home about. Just a few taps with a pretty standard assortment.

Beer list at Squires Briarcliff

I’ve been visiting Squires for a long time. They charge the same overpriced rates for beer as everywhere else and like most places in the area, don’t expect a free pour.  Seems it doesn’t matter how much you spend up here, buybacks are not a thing. Nothing really against it, just setting expectations.

Go for the food and the local vibe.  You won’t be disappointed!
