The Middle Ages in Mohegan Lake at Argonne Rose
Great eats, great beer!
Argonne Rose is situated on Route 6 right between the JV mall and the Dog Haus, which you should also check out.
Argonne Rose is stunning.
This remarkable gastropub is in the historic St. George’s Church in Mohegan Lake, New York. This place is the perfect spot for having a pint or three! They have transformed this 1919 church into a grand and inviting space with beamed ceilings, stained glass windows, and even a bar crafted from two pews.
The ambiance at Argonne Rose Brewing Co. is nothing short of enchanting, with majestic chandeliers that transport you into a scene reminiscent of Harry Potter’s world. However, what truly sets this place apart is its devotion to beer, particularly beers hailing from the Argonne region of France.
Their beer selection (I had four!) encompasses a rich tapestry of flavors influenced by France, Germany, and Belgium. The offerings include lagers, Belgian-style wheat ales (known as witbier), Belgian-style Doubles with mild spice notes, altbier with hints of dark caramel chocolate and coffee, and the delectable “9 Circles – Helles Lager” (4.8% ABV) A Golden medium-bodied German-style lager with a touch of malty sweetness balanced with Hallertau Mittelfrüh and Magnum hops. Not only do they brew their own, but they also have guest beers, and Duncan’s Abby of Tarrytown was featured on this visit. Red and white wines are on tap, prosecco, a rotating cider, and canned cocktails for those who prefer wine or cocktails. They also have some signature mixed cocktails.
To complement the beverages, Argonne Rose offers a delightful array of shareable snacks, including charcuterie boards, pretzel bites, beer-battered onion rings, and sliders in chicken, beef, and veggie variations. Don’t miss out on the beer cheese, made with their witbier, and the beer-battered, deep-fried pickles served with a side of ranch dressing – absolute must-tries! I must get back for a burger AND the great-looking Sunday brunch menu.
Menu:
I did have the “Spicy Beer Wings” which could have been a bit spicier but were still tasty and crispy. Had a pretzel as well and the Beer Chees Sauce was really good!
The name, Argonne Rose Brewing Co. was inspired by the name of the Argonne region of France, which resonates with their beer’s historical roots. The addition of “Rose” to the name pays homage to the national flower of the U.S., symbolizing the passion poured into their brewing process. Moreover, it honors the cherished history of St. George’s Church, a place steeped in love and tradition.
The thought of brewing beer in such a historic venue, where age-old European traditions blend seamlessly with modern methods, is truly captivating. Their tagline, “Built in 1911; Reimagined in 2022,” encapsulates the essence of Argonne Rose Brewing Co.’s journey.
This is a great venue reminiscent of Europe’s beer halls. In addition to the ambiance and great gastropub offerings, there is a full schedule of live music, paint and sips, trivia, happy hour and football specials, etc. etc.
If you plan to visit, you’ll find Argonne Rose Brewing Co. at 1715 E. Main St., Mohegan Lake, with the contact number 914-743-1622 and more information on their website, argonnerosebrewing.com.
