Unionville Tavern – Hawthorne – CLOSED Permanently
Large, local pub with some tasty bar food options.
Now this is a bar!
My original review stands below, but first, a statement from the owners of the Unionville Tavern published on March 11:
After over 40 years of service to the Mt. Pleasant community, we are officially closing our doors. The keys have been handed over, the doors will reopen in time, and we hope you will show the new proprietor the same support we were so humbled to receive. Thank you.

==============================================
This place has:
- A long bar
- Video golf games
- Jukebox
- Tables in the bar area
- Great wings
- Christmas ornaments hanging from the ceiling. Really.
There are some nice semi-standard beer taps. On this visit I had a couple Yeunglings and wings. The wings were excellent! I got the Charred Buffalo Garlic wings and they had great flavor and a little heat.
The menu has a solid selection of bar&grill food. Good selection of appetizers, burgers and sandwiches. There are some nice dinner specials on a chalkboard as well.
There are 2 rooms with dinner tables. The first is basically part of the bar so you get the noise and locals conversations. {pic below} The other is back a bit and is probably more appropriate for bringing the fam for dinner so as not to get disturbed by the locals and bar noise. There is a TV in that room as well but the volume is down. Dad can still watch the game while burping the baby. ;-)
A couple of unique things. First, Santa Bear is sitting in the corner near the front door! Second is the Christmas ornaments hanging from the celiing over the bar. Both are pretty cool. Santa Bear doesn’t talk much though.
Unionville Tavern has a parking lot but be a little early if you’re coming for the big game. The lot isn’t that big. There is some street parking and you can always park at the Hawthorne Metro North Station which is a stone’s throw away. The locals call this place home. The bar crowd is friendly and was happily watching the Bengals beat the Rams on this day except for the bartnder who said something about losing money on the game. Poor guy. Go Bengals!
To get the full experience though, go on a Sunday to watch the NY Giants. The passion is all there, led by George behind the bar. “FOOTBALL!”
The place was clean, considering how busy it was. The appearance is local bar rustic. It’s a great place for bar vittles and to drink.
Unionville Tavern is a stone’s throw from the Hawthorne Metro North Train Station.
Pros
- Large, full bar
- Clean bathrooms
- Watch the games
- Some good bar vittles
- Santa Bear
- Ornaments
- Bar Games and Jukebox
Cons
- I don’t really have any negatives
