Tuck’d Away in Tuckahoe, NY

Amazing Wings

Tucked away (See what I did there? ) on the corner of Yonkers Ave and Scarsdale Road in the town of Tuckahoe, NY is Tuck’d Away Bar and Grill. Doesn’t that location confuse people?  I was in the area already and my original plans got thwarted so I fired up Google Maps and Tuck’d Away was about a block away so I walked over with a plan of still getting somewhere new.  I was not let down.

On my visit this Saturday afternoon upon entering, I was greeted by another crowd but, the bar was empty except for a mom and kid ordering apple juice.  The dining area was entertaining a childs birthday party.  So, apologies for no dining room pics.  The bar area was nice though.  This was a medium length bar with the area also featuring some high top tables and additional counter space and bar stools.

There is also an area off to the side where there is a dartboard as the center of attraction.

I also noted a Jukebox on the other side of the bar.  I didn’t bother with it as the party was in full “Happy birthday to you…” rage at the time.

There were a couple of TV’s as well.  I asked if they could put on channel 7 so I would watch the NHL allstar game and it was on about 10 seconds later.

I was politely greeted and ordered a Broken Bow Hazlenut Stout.  (Broken Bow Brewery is also in Tuckahoe and I’m a big fan.  It’s a review for another day!)  This is a really good stout if you like ’em.  A little nutty and chocolatey.  Good stuff.

Then I was handed 3 different menus.  This seemed overwhelming for a second but there was purpose behind it.  There was a regular menu, seasonal drink specials(nice), and a Happy Hour menu.  A Saturday Happy Hour?  What a pleasant surprise!

A dollar a wing is a great price these days so of course I ordered Buffalo Wings and followed up my Porter with a Dales Pale Ale which seemed more appropriate for an order of wings than another porter.

Oh, the wings were good…

My first reaction was that they gave me 15 wings so I counted and there were only 12, but they were big and meaty.  This was a meal for one and probably an appetizer for 3.  The flavor was great.  Some might like a little more crisp and I’m sure they’d oblige if asked, but they were cooked through and the sauce was great.  Not your run-of-the-mill Franks and butter.  There was something else to them I couldn’t put my finger on.  Good stuff.  That isn’t your average blue cheese either.  I wouldn’t be surprised if they made it themselves.

The bar area seemed well kept and while I can’t comment on the dining area, I did get to the bathroom which was clean but seemed like it was in need for an upgrade.  It was just looking kind of old.  The dispeser had run out of towels but there were like 50 people for the party.  I accepted it and did the old jeans dry.

So, despite the kids party I liked the place and would go back and probably try a different variety of wings and share with others so I could possibly try something else from the menu.  The wings had me stuffed.
