Salsa Verde Taqueria & Bar in Somers
I went there to see the band and ended up staying for the tacos.
The Salsa Verde Taqueria & Bar located at the Somers Towne Center is a traditional Mexican restaurant and bar for blah blah blah.
They do an open mic on Sunday’s and that’s what I was there for. The front half of the restaurant has the bar and some tables with the back area has another dining room and small stage for music. It’s a completely open concept space but is separated by a short wall and 2-3 step staircase. As the bar area isn’t that large, neither is the bar. There are about 8 seats and most sitting there are eating. As open mic’s would be, some was good some wasn’t.
Service was fine but not amazing as they were a bit busy with only one tender and no back helping him out. I think he should have been able to handle a small bar a little better but I wasn’t too inconvenienced. When my food came, it came with proper accouterments and hot sauces, etc. The tacos were very good!
There aren’t many Mexican options in the area so for the locals I’m sure the place is popular. I wouldn’t make the 20 minute trip myself other than for the music if there was an interesting act. I have other good Mexican options in my area with a less crowded bar.
Pros
- Live music – Shows and Open Mic nights
- Tacos were top notch – Traditional Mexican menu
- Clean bathroom
- Family friendly
- Free parking in shopping center lot
Cons
- Small bar – a little tight
- Slow service when busy

Food was terrible and overpriced. Guacamole was not made tableside, out of the refrigerator it was tasteless and $12.95 for a tiny portion. Every Mexican restaurant I have gone to puts chips and salsa on the table. Not this place. My steak fajitas were not hot and sizzling as in every Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. The dish was lukewarm at best. The service was poor and the place was empty. We normally go to Fiesta Mexicana in Brewster and have never been disappointed. I am posting this because I feel was robbed of $107 !!! and I don’t want to see any else get robbed .
Wow, so sorry you had a poor experience at Salsa Verde. You obviously ordered a bunch more than I did and had a much worse experience. I may have to check out Fiest Mexicana so thanks for that reco. If you get further south, I highly recommend Maya Riviera in Briarcliff for excellent Mexican… Fresh chips on the table w/refills if they’re busy, guac made at the table and fajitas come sizzling hot!
