Bareburger in Mt. Kisco has a whole “Don’t judge a book by its cover” thing going on…
Located at 445 Main Street (rt. 117) in Mount Kisco, just South of Northern Westchester Hospital is the local Bareburger. I’d heard of Bareburger but had never been to one before and had no idea what to expect. But I was in the neighborhood so thought to give it a shot. The exterior seems quite small and totally unassuming. I was probably expecting more of a fast-food vibe than anything else. It’s actually a Shake Shack upgrade.
I walked in and was pleasantly surprised by the long bar!
I wasn’t even expecting a bar. Plus, they had a nice variety of beer choices. Not a huge variety from the norm on tap but some good stuff in bottles and cans. I settled in with a Jacks Abby House Lager. A personal favorite of mine. Bar probably seats 10-12 and had signs for family trivia nights.
I was greeted by Alex with water and a small bag of popcorn. Free popcorn! Astonishing! Alex was super friendly and quite attentive. A+ for her.
I was there right about 11:30 for an early lunch. The was another couple at the bar and 2-3 tables with patrons. The dining area isn’t large but there are probably a dozen tables for four. Great natural lighting as well.
I never even looked them up online until now so I found out first-hand that they offer a great selection of organically sourced burger and sandwich options.
You’ll note the specials menu is full of Wagyu beef burgers and a bunch of other stuff. They have a full bar so wine and cocktails are available. And of course, a great range of beef burgers, vegan burgers, chicken sandwiches, etc.
I got me a grilled buffalo chicken sandwich. I know, I know, why not a burger. I had a burger the night before at Squires so I figured I’d switch.
Now this wasn’t the best chicken sandwich I’ve had but it was pretty damn tasty and the fries were perfect. The ketchup was actually exceptional. Yeah, the ketchup. This was served in a no frills squeeze bottle but it was thicker than Heinz.
Bareburger has locations throughout the Northeast. If there is one near you, I suggest you check it out. Here is a general description I had a little help with…
Bareburger is a micro-chain of organic burger restaurants that started in 2009. The brand is renowned for its commitment to sustainability, offering a menu rich with organic and locally sourced ingredients. Bareburger’s menu includes a diverse range of options catering to various dietary preferences including vegan, vegetarian, and meat-based dishes. Their offerings range from classic beef burgers made with organic grass-fed beef to innovative plant-based burgers and even exotic meats like bison and elk. The restaurant emphasizes environmental responsibility, using biodegradable takeout products made from plant resin or recycled paper.
Bareburger’s locations span various cities, primarily in New York, and the restaurant has a strong focus on creating a dining experience that supports humane animal treatment and fair labor practices on the farms they source from. This approach extends to their packaging and operations, aligning with their goal to provide eco-friendly dining experiences.
Prices are competitive but you can get a discount for being old or a service worker. I guess I finally have to accept that AARP membership. Sigh.
Check out your local Bareburgher. You’ll be pleasantly pleased.
